Clean Start

when you first get a license, you start with a clean record even if your previous tickets?
I live in Arizona and I was wondering if you start with a clean record when you first your license, even if your previous tickets. I got caught racing in the highway when I was 17 and not get a license until I was 21, because I was not a permanent resident yet, I just had a border crossing card. Should that have swept my driving record? Thank you!
Tickets previous record in this case might yes you clean

Clean $21.24 A woman throws herself into a last-ditch struggle to conquer her demons in this gritty drama from director Olivier Assayas. Lee Hauser (James Johnston) is a faded rock star who lives with his wife, Emily Wang (Maggie Cheung), the former host of a European music video show, in a small town in Western Canada. Both Lee and Emily have been battling drug addiction for years, and when Lee finally dies of an OD, Emily finds herself charged with possession of heroin and ends up spending six months in jail. Lee and Emily’s son, Jay (James Dennis), has been living with his paternal grandparents, Albrecht (Nick Nolte) and Rosemary (Martha Henry), and while Emily is eager to see her son after getting out of jail, Albrecht persuades her that she needs to get herself clean before she can reconnect with Jay. Determined to get off methadone, Emily relocates to France, where she scares up a job as a waitress and moves in with her old friend Elena (Béatrice Dalle). Emily’s attempts to start a new career and stay off drugs prove to be an uphill battle, and she doesn’t appear to be winning her fight when she learns that Albrecht and Jay will be accompanying Rosemary to London for medical treatment when Rosemary contracts a serious illness — and that Albrecht is considering making a side trip to Paris. Clean was screened in competition at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi |

Clean Tech, Clean Profits (Hardcover) $91.2 The squeeze on carbon is beginning in earnest. By 2020, we will have made a start on running our homes, workplaces and vehicles in smarter and less polluting ways. By 2050, we should have reconfigured how we generate power, conserve water and manage waste. But talk of an 80% cut in carbon emissions remains an extraordinarily ambitious goal, particularly when new economic powers like China and India are added to the equation.   Ideas for switching to a low-carbon world are bound to take numerous forms. For businesses, the challenge is to find a way of commercializing these ideas. Although their scale can be small and the set-up costs high, the overall potential of this shift is enormous, as evidenced by the amount of private capital and public funds looking for clean technology in which to invest. Clean Tech, Clean Profits is a practical guide for entrepreneurs, innovators, designers and investors looking to bring clean technologies to market. Drawing on a wide range of expertise and experience in strategy, technology, branding, intellectual property, design and finance, it provides clear insight on how companies can best position themselves for the growth in the clean tech-industry. |

MADE [Clean] $15.18 Hip-hop veteran Scarface doesn’t evolve much or waiver from his usual hardcore, minimal sound on his 2007 effort MADE, but that doesn’t mean his loyal fan base shouldn’t eat it up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. MADE is Scarface doing everything right, delivering those cold, hardcore rhymes over uncomplicated, soulful beats. He’s inspired enough to carry this almost guest-free album on his own, and if anything’s changed about his lyrics, it’s that he’s more willing than ever to show his maturity. On the highlight “Big Dog Status” he tells the younger generation to stop worrying about the price tag of their ride and start thinking about what it takes to stay in the game for life. “Boy Meets Girl” is an insightful story of a hood relationship gone wrong while the bleak “The Suicide Note” wonders how Face’s old neighborhood slipped into hell so fast. Memorable choruses and hooks like the ones found on “Never” and “Dollar” round the album out just enough, although a couple of redundant numbers keep this from being one of his best. Oddly enough, the rapper picks up his guitar for the album but doesn’t hand in a production, leaving it up to Mike Dean, Drumma Boy, and One Drop Scott to deliver the satisfying beats. Elva [Clean] $11.14 Taking a cue from fellow alternative pop bands like Everclear, Unwritten Law beefs up its production and plays with its trademark sound on Elva. The band is moving farther away from the anemic punk rock that made it a critical bull’s-eye in the ’90s, and the newer pop direction fits Unwritten Law’s abilities perfectly. The only real issue with the album is the generic way the band approaches most of the rock songs. Slower, more weighty songs like “Seein’ Red” get the maximum treatment because of their knack for building to a strong chorus. But the rockers tend to start with all guns blazing, just to fizzle out after a few verses. There are obvious exceptions, especially the excellent “Mean Girl,” which packs a powerful punch around the chorus, and “Nick & Phil” stays interesting due to the raging vocals contrasting with the syrupy background vocals. But then there are songs like “Rescue Me,” which does not maintain energy because of the overly smooth chorus that follows the Jawbox-esque verses. Still, to see Unwritten Law attempting new things is always comforting, especially when the band is good at them. From the reggae-tinged “How You Feel” to the Soul Asylum country-rock of “Rest of My Life,” there is a lot here that branches out from the group’s previous sound, and it is this variety and catchiness that makes this a recommendation for fans of alternative pop bands. [Elva was also released in a "clean" edition, containing no profanities or vulgarities.] ~ Bradley Torreano, Rovi Performers: Michael Fisher – Indian Percussion; John Shanks – Slide Guitar, Guitar; Josh Freese – Drums; Marshall Goodman – Percussion; Neville Staple – Vocals; Rob Brewer – Guitar; Scott Russo – Vocals; Steve Morris – Guitar; Tony Kanal – Bass; Wade Youman |

Where Do You Start? $12.78 Few veterans of the classic bebop era were still active in 2002, and even fewer were still in their musical prime. Don Lanphere is a major exception. Rather than just recreating the past (which in his case includes leading a date that featured Fats Navarro), Lanphere always looks ahead. A distinctive tenor-saxophonist, Lanphere also doubles effective on soprano and leads a top-notch sextet in the Pacific Northwest. Where Do You Start has a high-quality repertoire performed by Lanphere, cornetist Jonathan Pugh, trombonist Jeff Hay, pianist Marc Seales, bassist Doug Miller and drummer John Bishop. The five originals by group members include “Blues Away” (which is in the Art Blakey hard bop tradition), a feature for Lanphere’s soprano on the moody ballad “Ming’s Dream” and the novel “Methuselah’s Big Duck,” which has the cornet and trombone imitating quacking sounds. Of the four other tunes, Jim Hall’s “All Across The City” and “Where Do You Start” (which is very rarely ever done interpreted as an instrumental but works quite well) are joined by Tadd Dameron’s “The Scene Is Clean” and a wistful version of “A Cottage For Sale.” Just one in a string of excellent Don Lanphere recordings after 1980, Where Do You Start has been put out by Origin, a valuable label that documents the jazz scene in Washington State. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi Performers: Jonathan Pugh – Cornet; Don Lanphere – Saxophone; Doug Miller – Bass; Jeff Hay – Trombone; John Bishop – Drums; Marc Seales – Piano |

Faceless [Clean] $11.14 Godsmack’s first, slow-burning success — the self-titled debut from 1998 — spent two years climbing charts and selling records as the witchy minstrels of alternative metal wound their way across the country on two consecutive Ozzfest tours. The sound was familiar enough, recalling Alice in Chains in both vocalist Sully Erna’s tortured howls and their very name, taken from that band’s excellent 1992 release, Dirt. And while it initially failed to impress critics, fans quickly picked up on the band’s industrial touch to the post-grunge sound. Likewise, 2001′s Awake was regarded by some as a sophomore slump, with only half of the sales of Godsmack’s debut, but “slump” in this case equaled double-platinum. And though the sales did validate the band’s effort to some extent, Awake was full of growing pains, as they tried in vain to shed their influences and ended up with a record that had successful moments, but its reliance on stop-start rhythms often left it sounding sorely underwritten. Faceless, Godsmack’s third full-length, grooves more fluidly than Awake, but the band still hasn’t managed to locate the pop hooks that made their debut a success. And while concentrating on texture can be just as interesting as hooks, lyrics as misanthropic as Erna’s only sink Faceless, Rovi Performers: Robbie Merrill – Strings, Vocals; Shannon Larkin – Sound Effects, Drums; Sully Erna – Vocals |

J.Lo [Clean] $6.38 Most snickered when Jennifer Lopez made her pop move in 1999, figuring that it was no more than a one-off vanity project. As it turns out, she was as serious about her pop career as she was about acting, and even if she didn’t possess a particularly distinguished voice, she was earnest and had some good mainstream pop singles, delivered with some seriously sexy videos. On the Six was big enough of a success to raise expectations for its sequel, J-Lo, the first self-styled blockbuster of 2001. Essentially, this is the same album as On the Six, only a little longer with a little less focus and not as many memorable songs. This lack of winning singles becomes a drag, since at over an hour, the record meanders much longer than it should. Yet, meander isn’t really the right word, because the album sets its tone from the start, with the ingratiating “Love Don’t Cost a Thing.” From that point on, the tinny, skittering drum machines, smooth midrange, and alluringly thin vocals remain the same from song to song, with the occasional Latin cut thrown in to vary the rhythm somewhat. Since both the production and Lopez play it cool, not hot, and there’s not that many hooks, it all tends to blend together. Those that have hooks need a couple of spins before they catch hold, whether it’s the aforementioned lead single “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” “I’m Real,” “Play,” or “We Gotta Talk.” Lopez’s strong suit remains dance tunes, not ballads, which tend to disappear in this reserved production and mannered vocals (no more so than “Secretly,” which never seems to gel). So, J-Lo winds up as musically a mixed bag. Its longer running time makes it a little less appealing than its predecessor, yet it has just about the same number of strong songs, all of which sounding of a piece with On the Six, which makes it a success on a certain level. Still, there’s this certain feeling of staid complacency and ordinariness that makes J-Lo feel less fun than her debut. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi |

Clean Water Filter Kit $95 Get the Clear Inline Hose Filter Canister and all its accessories in one comprehensive package! The Clean Water Filter Kit includes everything you need for a one-step, in-line filtration system. Unfiltered water from an outdoor spigot can contain a number of things you wouldn?t knowingly put on your vehicle. Yet, without any type of filtration system, you are washing your vehicle in unclean water. Both city water and well water contain minerals and sediment. Minerals cause water spots. Sediment is responsible for micro-marring. Even if you take every possible precaution to protect your vehicle?s paint from swirls and water spots, you?re still leaving it completely vulnerable if you don?t have a water filter. Minerals , particularly calcium and magnesium, are what constitute ?hard water?. Hard water is responsible for water spots, poor-lathering shampoo, and that green ring around your bathtub. The calcium and magnesium actually harden inside pipes (called ?scale?) and on other surfaces, including your vehicle. When you rinse with hard water, you could be dousing your vehicle with hard mineral deposits. The only way to prevent hard water deposits is with a water softener. Sediment is rust or sand that is inside water pipes. A broken water main miles and miles away can allow sand to enter your water supply. Likewise, a little rust anywhere along the water line can flake off into the water. This is why your household faucets have filters. Needless to say, sand and rust hitting your paint finish should be avoided. A filter will remove fine sediment and protect your vehicle as you wash it. The Clean Water Filter Kit makes owning an in-line filter practical for the hobbyist. There?s no guesswork. When you receive the kit, simply connect the included 2 ft hose to the spigot and the hose adapter labeled ?in? on the filter unit. Connect your standard Inline hose to the ?out? side of the filter. Insert either of the included cartridges, screw the base back onto the lid and start washing. The Clean Water Filter Kit includes: 1 Clear Inline Hose Filter Canister Keep your wash water perfectly clean with this easy-to-install, in-line hose filter. It installs between two hoses to filter sediment out of the water or to soften the water, depending on which cartridge you insert. Brass hose-adapter fittings ensure long-lasting performance. The sturdy plastic canister allows you to see when the sediment filter needs changing. The entire unit is 12 inches tall and about 4 ½ inches at its widest point. It includes a wrench to assist in changing the cartridges and a mounting bracket. 1 Sediment Filter Cartridge This cartridge is made of five micron spun poly. It traps fine sediment as the water passes through so that nothing hits your vehicle but pure water. Sediment may include sand, rust, and hard water scale. If you don?t have a hard water problem, this cartridge is all you need to filter your water. 1 Water Softener Filter Cartridge This cartridge neutralizes calci |

All Hope Is Gone [Clean] $15.18 There comes a time in every band’s life where they take off the masks and grow up — then again, maybe not, as Slipknot have managed to dig deeper without ever shedding their grotesque veils. They’re still wearing disguises but they have shed producer Rick Rubin, the metal legend who produced 2004′s Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses, giving the nonet just the slightest hint of broader horizons beyond their relentless aggression — not enough for the band to crossover, but perhaps enough to earn grudging respect from listeners outside of metalheads. Of course, such respect is hardly granted to bands that wear monster maggot masks, so Slipknot’s retreat to ugliness on their fourth album — a move telegraphed heavily by the cheery title All Hope Is Gone — isn’t entirely surprising, nor is it unwelcome as this isn’t a regression, it’s more or less a consolidation of strengths. Certainly, the album gets off to a throttling start with “Gematria,” a cluster of cacophony and for the longest time on All Hope it seems as if Slipknot will never let up on this pressure, as this is an onslaught of densely dark intricate riffs. So effective is this onslaught that when things do get a little softer a little later on, the album threatens to collapse like a soufflé, but that’s only because the slower moments emphasize the group’s odd tendency to sound like anonymous active rock when they untwist their rhythms and lay off on the double bass drums. Nowhere is this latent tendency for macho schmaltz more evident than on “Snuff,” a stab at a power ballad that sounds disarmingly close to Nickelback, a bewildering incongruity that feels even stranger given the album’s otherwise merciless attack. One more power ballad like this would be enough to derail the album, turning it into the crossover Vol. 3 never was despite Rubin’s flourishes, but All Hope Is Gone as a whole winds up being as bleak and unforgiving as its title. Presents the Big Squeeze [Clean] $14.38 As Snoop explains during the intro, The Big Squeeze was made to feature some underappreciated and unknown West Coast talent, plus showcase Snoop as producer and beat-maker, for which he uses the pseudonym Niggaracci. He’s no Dr. Dre behind the boards, at least not yet, but he’s surprisingly good, offering numerous hypnotic basslines, skeletal G-funk, and crooked beats perfect for crip-walking. During the intro he also claims he wanted to produce the record “from start to finish,” but Soopafly is in charge of Tha Dogg Pound’s “We Came to Bang Out” while the relaxed highlight “Can U Get Away?” was produced by David Banner. They could have been added last minute, and they could be clues as to why the release feels a bit patched together, but the enthusiasm and pride Snoop projects throughout the album makes up for a lot, especially for hardcore fans who have heard him sleepwalk through these types of fringe releases before. The loose weekend feel of the album makes it hard for most to really shine with their rhymes, save the gruff War Zone, who emerges as one to watch thanks to his fine work on “Shackled Up.” Veteran Kurupt is also a pleasure to hear, as are MC Eiht and JT the Bigga Figga in their disappointingly short appearances. Since Kurupt, War Zone, and the Niggaracci side of Snoop are the ones who truly benefit from the comp, The Big Squeeze comes up short on its goal of making every name known. Still, this Left Coast party is a really good party even if you don’t remember every stranger you meet. If Tomorrow Comes…[Clean] $11.18 Bed-Stuy rapper Maino spent nearly a decade behind bars before he launched his rap career. Thanks to numerous appearances on mixtapes, the “Maino Is the Future” tagline started appearing about 2004, just one year after his release. Switching labels, scrapping a finished album, and not releasing his official debut for five years brought this “future” into doubt, but it was really just a case of the stars aligning because If Tomorrow Comes… is a killer way to start a career. Over an especially good Swizz Beatz production, he identifies himself as different right from the start, declaring it’s better to give than receive on the opening “Million Bucks.” Feeling good about the success of others isn’t common in gangster rap, but Maino is hardcore all the way and will later offer “I contemplate, they ain’t never hear you screams with a pillow to your face” on “Kill You,” and by the way, he’s speaking to a female (“You gonna look better in my trunk girl, layin’ funny”). If Tomorrow Comes… believably lives in both of these worlds because it is a concept album, one that follows Maino from crack addict parents, to prison, and on to parole where he’s determined not to fail. His poetic explanations of why going back to the joint is no alternative are hardly Scared Straight! material. Instead of shock value, he speaks to the soul-crushing joylessness of prison and what an important role pride plays in his life, and how much that differs from the average rapper’s idea of respect. On the key track “Runaway Slave” he spits “How they gonna remember me?/What up be my legacy?/How they gonna talk about me/When they pour Hennessey.” Elsewhere, while reenacting his first meeting with future mentor DJ Kayslay, he’s surprisingly humble, unwilling to boast but entirely confident his demo will achieve. Lighter moments appear along the way with the infectious and snide “Hi Hater” and the T-Pain-produced victory number “All the Above” keeping the album from becoming too heavy. After all that time in prison, Maino has few answers but he has a plan, and it happens to be a righteous plan. The way he maps it out on If Tomorrow Comes… is vivid, cold, hard, hopeful, sometimes even thoughtful, but most of all, it’s riveting. As Kayslay says during one of the interludes, “You need to be congratulating the dude.” [If Tomorrow Comes... was also made available in a clean version with explicit content removed.] ~ David Jeffries, Rovi Performers: Dawne M. Hill – Vocals; Eritza Laues – Vocals; Jimmy Starnes – Vocals; Josh Gannet – Guitar (Bass); Just Blaze – Keyboards |

Tri-Polar [Clean] $10.38 After four years of living in Los Angeles, it’s no surprise that Sick Puppies sound more American than ever on Tri-Polar. The Australian band always drew on U.S. angst rock for its influences, though, and that’s even more obvious here than before, with plenty of Alice in Chains, Stabbing Westward, and their ilk apparent on the bandmembers’ sleeves. “So What I Lied” has a guitar riff in the midsection typical of Tool, and in “White Balloons” singer Shimon Moore briefly adopts the stop-start cadence of Maynard Keenan. “Don’t Walk Away” is a very typical example of the “I know I was wrong” genre that even includes a heartfelt moan of…”I know I was wrong.” Another touchstone band whose influence was felt on their previous album, Dressed Up as Life, is My Chemical Romance, and although Tri-Polar’s production has their polished sheen, Sick Puppies lack the theatrical edge of My Chemical Romance that makes the sound work. Moore’s agonized and echoing screams and shouts would be better served by a production style that wasn’t so relentless about smoothing out all of the rough edges, letting them be as ragged as it sounds like the band wants them to be. The downtrodden revenge fantasy “Master of the Universe” has a quirky slap bass intro and a sitar layered into the guitar solo; it’s the album’s highlight. Unfortunately for Sick Puppies, though, there’s nothing with the breakthrough potential of “All the Same” here. Saints of Los Angeles [Clean] $10.38 Since 1989′s Dr. Feelgood, Mötley Crüe fans have endured countless live albums, “greatest-hits” collections, reissues and B-sides packages, a record with John Corabi on vocals, and one with Randy Castillo behind the kit. The most successful thing the band produced in those ensuing years was its tell-all autobiography, The Dirt, a story so drenched in sex, drugs, and rock & roll that it elicited a venereal disease and a contact high just through picking it up. That book is the impetus behind Saints of Los Angeles, the first record to feature the group’s original lineup since Swine, and it’s a welcome — though spotty — return to form for these aging miscreants. The Crüe are at their best when they mine the manic, punk-infused glam metal of the pre-saturated, mid-’80s Sunset Strip, something they get right on opening cut “Face Down in the Dirt,” complete with a Shout at the Devil-era, “In the Beginning”-inspired intro. “Down at the Whisky” echoes the West Coast excess of Girls, Girls, Girls, managing to wax both nostalgic and devious while dutifully summing up the band’s rise from local pranksters to international bad boys, while the rousing title cut, though a bit forced, manages to drum up the kind of chest-thumping bravado that sparked some of the best metal anthems of the late ’80s. Like all Crüe albums, things start to go south about halfway through, and while the performances and subject matter are as raucous and sadistic as the book upon which they’re based, it’s all a bit too deliberate. Mötley Crüe have been trumpeting their hedonism for so long and so loudly that it’s become more of a caricature than a way of life, and while Saints of Los Angeles is the best thing they’ve laid to tape since their codpiece heydays, it’s more of a walk down memory lane/Sunset Strip than a legitimate call to arms. [Saints of Los Angeles is also available in a clean version, which omits all of those bad words that Mötley Crüe fans have never heard.] ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi Performers: Marti Frederiksen – Vocals (Background); Melissa Harding – Vocals (Background); Vince Neil – Vocals (Background) |

The Tipping Point [Clean] $11.16 The delivery of any new Roots album is rarely talked or written about without the words “highly” and “anticipated,” and The Tipping Point is no exception. Besides the usual expectation for the band’s superior lyrical skills and attention to detail, there’s the previously announced concept that The Tipping Point would be recorded through free-spirited jams that would later be edited down. Sounds like a don’t-care-about-the-final-package, music-for-music’s-sake release, but the album is a well-constructed ride from start to finish that’s perfect for a headphones-on, lights-out evening and a gift to fans who found 2002′s Phrenology a bit mannered and forced. To paraphrase the album’s “Pointro,” the tracks here are mostly warm and organic “life music” that “thrusts its branches from the muck of wackness” without any overly calculated “hypnotic donkey rhythms.” The ghost of Sly & the Family Stone is summoned for the opening “Star,” an exuberant soul rocker that creeps along with a Timbaland-style beat, only it’s live. On the other hand, there’s the perfect for popping, locking, and robot-dancing “Don’t Say Nuthin’” with its solid electro and Black Thought’s quirky mumbled verse. The shifting from the sticky, stately reggae of “Guns Are Drawn” to the Cohiba-puffing swagger of “Stay Cool” is just one example of how the album overcomes its noncommitment to any particular groove by giving the listener nothing but fully formed, inspired tracks. The band’s renewed love of head-bobbing jams also helps keep it together although the album’s long stretches of rap-less jamming might alienate those just here for the message. For them there’s the lyric-filled “Boom!,” which may not be enough. Take off your academic backpack for a change and bask in an album that’s comfortably loose and ends with an over-the-top, celebratory cover of George Kranz’s “Din Daa Daa” that’s unnecessary but extra fun. The Tipping Point is too modest to be the “idea that spreads like a virus” that’s explored in the Malcolm Gladwell book the collection cops it title from. What the album lacks in ambition and social commentary, it makes up for with deep soul. That should be enough to make whatever this group does next “highly anticipated.” [The Tipping Point was also made available in a clean version, with all explicit material removed.] ~ David Jeffries, Rovi Performers: ?uestlove – Drums; Black Thought – Vocals; Hub – Bass; Kamal – Keyboards |
